“Welcome to the Jungle” 25th of November 2012

So we arrived in Manila last night, got mugged off massively by our ‘lost’ taxi driver, we concluded this when he proceeded to drive around a multistory car park in order to push up the meter just a tad more…Anyhoo nothing we could do about it really as we had no idea where we were going! So we finally made it to Friendlys Guesthouse, checked in, dumped our bags and headed of to explore Manila! It was hectic to say the least, but exactly how I’d imagined SEA! Crazy traffic, Jeepneys, and street food galore! We had a wander around and got a little bit lost, far to busy looking around us than checking which direction we had come from… Prettty scary wandering down side streets in Manila in the dark! Once we retraced our steps we decided to play it safe and headed to the bar opposite our guesthouse. We had a few beers with some dried squid (chewy salty but strangely alluring!) and chatted a nice Philippineo group.

After a short but sweet sleep we grabbed a taxi to the domestic terminal to catch our flight to Bohol! We hadn’t booked any accommodation so once we landed we grabbed a tricycle and hedged all our bets on Nuts Huts along the Loboc River having a room! Thankfully they did! It is truly amazing here, I would even go as far as paradise! Before I get all over excited let me just recap on our journey.

So after a tricky tricycle ride, these things are not made for hills, three people and luggage! Our driver had to actually turn around and do a run up to make a particularly steep climb! However we made it and our driver dropped us at the sign for Nuts Huts, insisting it was just a “short” walk…

Dont worry, you'll make it!

Dont worry, you’ll make it!

about 3km later + 150 steps we arrive at Nuts Huts reception! After snaffeling a room for 800 Peso’s and another 100+ steps we had really arrived!
Oh my gosh soooo worth it! We are basically in the middle of the Jungle, the Loboc is a stone throw away and all you can here is birds, crickets and other jungle creatures! 🙂
After recovering from our journey we went for a little swim in the Loboc, refreshing but a tad scary (are there crocs round here?) One thing is you’re about an hours walk out of civilization, meaning your pretty much limited to eating and drinking at the in house bar…not so bad though think I can handle chilling for a couple of days with a San Miguel and jungle moosic!
